Summary

Global liquefied natural gas (LNG) liquefaction capacity is expected to grow by 76% during the outlook period (2019-2023), from 450 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) in 2019 to 791 mtpa in 2023 from active, planned and announced projects. Among regions, North America accounts for most of the global liquefaction capacity growth from planned and announced projects (new-build projects), contributing about 72% of the total global capacity in 2023. Among countries, the US leads globally with 215 mtpa of liquefaction capacity in 2023. Canada and Russia follow, with capacities of 34 mtpa and 33 mtpa, respectively.
